The surface is smooth, with a rich texture. The bases provide solid support and complement the tops without distracting the eye. And because the composite material Sandback uses has a concrete base, these tables are very durable, yet remarkably light.

While he may not be setting out with the intention of creating “art,” Sandback has done so, willingly or not. Even if we cut loose the albatross of such labels, and free him from the burden, we are left with an object that evokes the spirit of minimalism nevertheless.
